I Pray Thee, Mark Me: Caret

Caret

an insention symbol used in proofreading to show where a missing letter, word or punctuation mark belongs.

You say I lack nothing
yet I feel as though I do,
The stories I've told myself lie to me.
Sometimes I catch sight of You
but then I'm left wondering,
was it nostalgia or just a memory?

How do I know that
my heart is kind
when a can't even feel it.
It weighs me down with emptiness,
a hollow heaviness
like something's missing.

Search me and know me
better than I know myself
‘cause I sense distance
and feel robbed of Joy's wealth.

If the Celts talked of thin places
then let this heart be threadbare.
I stare, eyed locked on the one,
until all of this makes sense,
or none of it does.

This poem is from a poetry collection of mine called ‘I Pray Thee, Mark Me’ where I take unusual, defunct or unused glyphs and punctuation as an anchoring theme for the words written in tempest seasons.
